30 years ago my family lived in Portland, OR. On May 18, 1980 my mother was 7 months pregnant with me when an earthquake set off a chain reaction that caused Mount St. Helens to erupt. She could see the volcano from our house and within hours the neighborhood was covered in volcanic ash. We still have a few jars of the ash my parents collected at the time.
A blogger recently collected some pretty amazing photographs to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the explosion. I thought I'd share them because they are pretty astounding! You can view them here at this link.
