Hello, Syria!

We can finally make an announcement that has been a long time coming - Ryan and I have accepted an MCC position in Syria and leave tomorrow (Sunday) from Lebanon to Aleppo.

Around the time that it became clear we would not be able to go to Iran, MCC was hiring for a dual English Teacher/Program Administrator position in Damascus. We went through the application process and accepted the job at the beginning of this year. We went to Prague to receive TEFL Training and now that our visa issues are finally resolved, we can make it "official" by blogging about it!

We will spend about two months in Aleppo focusing on Arabic language learning, and then will move to Damascus at the end of May to receive training in the administrative aspect of our job and move into the MCC house there. We are really excited at the prospect of finally settling in someplace. By the time we move into Damascus it will have been nearly a year of living transitionally, out of our suitcases.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to blog from Syria. Blogging in Syria is illegal and major blogging websites are blocked. This means that we will probably be increasing the number of emails we send to those of you who signed up for our list before we left last summer. Fortunately, photo-sharing sites like Flickr are still available to us and we'll be doing our best to post as much and as often as possible. Our Flickr page is www.flickr.com/photos/snyderthompson/.

We will most likely still use Chai For Two from time to time when we travel outside of Syria, so check back in occasionally.  We are so grateful for your support and patience this year as we've moved from place to place, and spent time discerning what to do next.  Please look out for a more detailed email that we'll send later this week after we get moved into Aleppo.
