Byblos

Sorry for the break in Lebanon coverage. We had a regional retreat at a convent here in Amman that was a little low on internet. I'll resume the pictures and stories from our trip to Beirut.

Byblos is a town just north of Beirut. Modern Byblos is famous for its beaches and resorts. Ancient Byblos is famous for possibly being the oldest inhabited city in the world, and also the port through which Egypt exported papyrus to Greece. You can read some about the etymology of its name here.

We experienced both sides of the city, starting the day pool-side.

We explored some of the old city and wandered through the souk (street market).

This is the ancient port, still used for fishing boats.

Lastly, we made a stop for some of my favorite Middle Eastern food - Za'atar and Mint Lemonade.
